South Hills Saints
Eligible grades are 4th, 5th, and 6th graders make up the Developmental and JV teams, while 7th and 8th graders make up the varsity team.
For the last several years, the Saints have been primarily comprised of students from Our Lady of Grace, St Philip’s, and St Margaret’s. However, we have been extending to students from other schools, like Holy Trinity, JFK, etc. We believe the mix of schools makes us unique from other programs. Not only do the kids get to branch out and develop new friendships, but they learn to work together with others with whom they may not have otherwise had the opportunity to interact. Not only is it a great opportunity to contribute, but the coaching philosophy is focused on teaching and development. Understanding that July/August is a popular vacation time, they do not hold “mandatory” practices. Although they begin our conditioning program during the last week in July, that’s more of an opportunity for kids to get acquainted with their teammates and coaches, and get acclimated to the practice cadence. Obviously, family comes first, so if vacations are scheduled at that time, it’s never an issue.
As they get into the second week of August, they begin practices in earnest. Obviously, family vacations/time take priority over football so, again, if vacations are scheduled, that’s not a problem. The season typically runs into October (usually a 9-game schedule), and as school begins, they scale back on the practice week to 2 or 3 days per week, for two hours. Practices usually run from 6-8pm, and are held at Our Lady of Grace in Scott Township. Games are played on Sunday afternoons, and all home games are at OLG, as well.
